Ugh! Go Blog About It!
Read the thoughts, ramblings, and words of our writers and staff as they put up weekly blog posts.
“Women have much more to offer film than male empowerment or sex appeal. And even the reductive nature of the name “female manipulator movies” doesn’t do them justice. These so-called “female manipulator movies” are simply over-the-top, cathartic, and raw depictions of womanhood. I will acknowledge that a lot of aspects of these films are grossly unrealistic, but nothing will convince me that they aren't deeply rooted in the very real experiences women face on a day-to-day basis. These films are just fun-house mirror depictions of reality, adding in an element of escapism, catharsis, or raw violence, that isn’t typically part of real life.”

“For a long time, I hid a part of myself, even from my own mirror. I didn’t let myself acknowledge the deep, innermost desire and longing to be completely myself. Growing up in a religious environment doesn’t exactly make a place for exploration of oneself. I was raised to make others proud, to make myself proud. All I ever wanted was to make those around me proud. Disappointing others was a deep fear ingrained into my daily thoughts.”

“Around the time Olivia Rodrigo's debut album “SOUR” came out, I went through a phase where my obsession with her music was one of my core personality traits. If you asked anyone that I went to high school with, they would agree with that statement and probably roll their eyes at the memory. I admit that thinking back on it makes me cringe a little at how overboard I was. But when the lyrics aligned exactly with how my failed situationship at the time ended, what else was I supposed to do but listen to "traitor" on repeat?”
